GRANDSTAND HISTORY

The original grandstand built in ~1906 with an elevated grandstand with an addition to the west. This grandstand would be destroyed as a part of the 1912 tornado.

Naomi Baker was a resident at the Martinsville Ag Fair and served as the Parade Marshall because of her knowledge of horses, trainers, and horse owners since her father was part of the horse business. This was the rebuilt version in 1946, notice the tents covering the newly installed seating.

The current grandstand was built in 1946 with roof added in 1949 and has all the remaining features except the cupola on the judge stand. Marathon Oil Company served as a big contributor of rebuilding the grandstands.

Notice the Old Hub Rail and the large trees in the background of the grandstands.

Start to Finish this grandstands has seen everything from singers, to motors, but has always brought top horses to race at one of the fastest 1/2 mile tracks in America.

The 2020 Martinsville Ag Fair was cancelled due to the global pandemic, COVID-19.
